Construction Work and Parking Restrictions
Notice to the Residents of Hantsport
Construction Work and Parking Restrictions in the Upcoming Season
The Town has awarded a contract for the street and in-ground infrastructure renewal of approximately 1200 feet of Prince Street below Oak Street. This work is scheduled to begin the week of July 6th and last approximately 6 weeks. During this time truck traffic entering and exiting CKF and Minas Basin will be rerouted from Prince Street to William Street.
Given traffic volumes, the width of the affected streets and that the intersection on Main Street and William Street was not designed to accommodate the wide turning radius of large 53 foot trailors, the traffic authority has issued the following rulings during construction:
1. Parking will be prohibited on the West side of Main Street across from the Legion.
2. Parking will be prohibited on the East side of Main Street from the intersection of Main Street and School Street through the intersection of Main Street and William Street.
3. Parking will be prohibited on the West side of Main Street in front of the Scotiabank building.
4. Parking will be prohibited on the North side of William Street.
Status of Construction Tenders for the Upcoming Season
Responses to the street renewal tender offers that were issued earlier this spring were far higher than had been estimated. This has caused Town Council to scale back the infrastructure works for the summer. Council faces loosing the federal and provincial shares of monies allocated for Prince Street if the project is not completed this year. In lieu of this, Council has decided to move ahead with a scaled back portion of the Prince Street project this year and re-tender for other street renewals at a later date.
Funding for the truck route has been announced verbally but the Town has not received written confirmation. Work continues on finalizing the designs and obtaining environmental approvals. Town Council will keep the citizens of the Town informed as further developments occur.
Bicycles Traveling the Walkways around the Town Office
There have been a number of close calls with children on bicycles exiting the Town Office walkways onto the parking lot and almost colliding with cars exiting the parking lot. We ask that parents discourage this practice as a safety precaution.
Should you have any questions or concerns on these matters please do not hesitate to contact the Town Office at 684-3211 or by e-mail at
